Jean-Philippe Léo Smet (15 June 1943 – 5 December 2017), better known by his stage name "Johnny Hallyday", was a French rock musician and singer, as well as an actor, credited for bringing French-language rock music to the public.

Throughout his 57-year career, he released 79 albums and sold more than 110 million records worldwide, making him one of the best-selling artists in the world. He released five- diamond albums, 40 golden albums, 22 platinum albums, and earned ten award Victoires de la Musique. He sang approximately 1,154 songs and collaborated on 540 duets with 187 artists.

He was a symbol of the Trente Glorieuses (the 30 Glorious Years) when he emerged in 1960, and he was one of the most well-covered persons by the media in France. More than 2,500 magazine covers and 190 books were dedicated to him during his lifetime, making him one of the most well-covered persons by the media in France. The death of Johnny from cancer in 2017 was followed by a "popular tribute" that drew a million attendees and was watched on television by 15 million others.
